Trivia Question: Senate Streaks

I heard a good trivia question on yesterday’s Talk of the Nation for all you Americanists out there. In honor of the fact that the National League has now failed to win the all-star game in 13 successive years, the challenge is to name 4 states in which either party has failed to win a Senate seat in the last 13 Senate elections in that state.

Answer below the break…

Hawaii, Kansas, West Virginia, and Wyoming

massachusetts just barely misses

Democrats haven’t won in Kansas for a very long time.

It seems like Akaka and Inouye have been in office since I was in High School, meaning Republicans have been shut out for a long time.

I can’t remember a Democratic Senator from Wyoming.

Darn, I had Hawaii and West Virginia; I thought North Dakota and Utah might be the other two.

Ah! I forgot Hawaii. Did get Wyoming and WV. Guessed MA instead of Kansas. 2/4 isn’t too bad.
