Weekend Frivolity: Suburban Yuppie Rap
Some of this consists of inside jokes for those of us who live in the DC area and who— as all right-thinking people do — despise the Northern Virginia suburbs. But lots of it is about generic suburbia and should be recognizable no matter what part of the country you live in, because suburbia is so … well, generic.

Not that the video deserves an extended exegesis, but it is very specific to Arlington. It might help to know that Remy (the creator/star) is from McLean, an even more generic NoVa ‘burb, and that he leans right. For him, Arlington is basically a city full of yuppies. It’s urban, and yet the people that live there are wimps. That’s the joke.

Sorry, is the Green Line dangerous?

I wouldn’t consider any of the Metro lines “dangerous” in any real sense. The Green Line, though, does go through Anacostia, the part of DC with the highest crime rate.

The Green Line has a significant African-American ridership; the joke is that (mostly white) Arlingtonians are afraid to ride on a train with lots of black people.
The reason most Arlington residents never ride the Green Line is that it doesn’t run to Arlington.
