The Politico's Mea Maxima Culpa
Apropos of my earlier post on horse race coverage and David’s skepticism of the post-Iowa doom-and-gloom about Clinton’s campaign comes this noteworthy piece of self-flagellation by The Politico. After cataloging how and why the media’s narrative of the campaign has been wrongwrongwrong at various junctures, John Harris and Jim VandeHei offer this prescriptive:
As far as what’s bad, there is generally one good answer to excesses and hype in political journalism: Respect the voters. That means waiting to find out what they really think.
Now we’ll see if The Politico, or any media outlet, can do it.
